Perfect shirt for Librarian of the Day
The girls' school uses Accelerated Reader, AR as it's commonly known, which is a program intended to monitor and incentivize students' independent reading. The program has been widely abused and lacks sound research as to it's effectiveness and it's claims. In short, this literacy specialist hates it. But I digress... The school rewards students for the AR points that they earn throughout the year. One of the biggest rewards being "Librarian for a Day" for anyone who earns a set amount of points. (As an aside, I do think this is a worthwhile and valid reward. So much better than plastic junk!) While Ruby almost certainly read enough to earn this reward in second grade, she often didn't take the "tests" required to track points because she just wanted to read! This year, however, Ruby and some other third graders made it a goal to earn Librarian of the Day. I started get a bit nervous about it this spring, knowing we may pull her out of school for a week in May (more on that soon!). I was worried she would run out of time to get her points, but she greatly surprised the goal by the end of April.
