Disney World Day 3: Magic Kingdom

Obligatory Main Street castle family pic

Day three was our first day at Magic Kingdom, which we were most excited about.  I had ordered and packed several shirts and dresses for our trip.  This was a fun surprise each morning for Ruby and Ada!   Ruby got a Beauty and the Beast dress and Ada wore her Snow White dress (she already had) because we had dinner reservations with the princesses at Cinderella's castle for that night!  Again we got to the park at opening before any crowds or lines.  I think there might have been "magic hours" meaning guests staying on property got in an hour earlier.  Our first stop was meeting Mickey and Minnie on Main Street.  This may be the only place to see them both together (apparently this is a big deal).  We had met Mickey the night before, but needed Minnie's picture and autograph too!  This character meet and greet was the most special of them all.  It felt as if we were meeting some VIP's under special security.  We were ushered back through several rooms and felt like honored guests when we were escorted to meet the mice without any other visitors present.

Next we met Tinkerbell, did some shopping along Main Street (Ruby got a Mary Poppins hat), and took the obligatory castle family picture.  We did a lot of rides this day; Peter Pan (cute), It's a Small World (a must-ride and girls loved it), Buzz Lightyear (twice), Little Mermaid (cute), Barnstormer (lame), Dumbo (Ada's must-ride), and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (one of our favs).

Tink has a LOT of energy and talked a mile a minute, girls didn't know what to think!

practically perfect

even numbers are beneficial for rides!

Dumbo was too spiny for Dad too

Ada was excited about this as we had just seen the new Dumbo movie

We had lunch at Gaston's Tavern (we saw Gaston flexing his muscles outside) and then went to Enchanted Tales with Belle.  This was a cute attraction where we started in Maurice's workshop, until a mirror on the wall transformed into a magic door leading to the castle.  The girls still talk about how magical that was!  Inside the castle the wardrobe welcomed us and gave the kids roles to play in Belle's fairy tale.  Ruby was a picture frame/portrait, Ada declined!  We then met Lumiere who introduced Belle and told her story.  Each of the kids got to interact with Belle, it was cute!

We ate slushies to try to stay cool as we waited for the magical parade.  Almost all of the princesses, princes, and characters were in the parade.  When Snow White spotted Ada's dress she rushed over and gave her a huge hug.  Steve was quick with his camera and captured the moment!  Chip or Dale gave Ru a hug too.
Ready for the parade to start.  So hot!

Snow White spotted Ada's matching dress!

So sweet!  So magical!

Is this Chip or Dale?

After the parade we went back to the Big Top to get the Dumbo stuffed animal Ada wanted and then went to Cinderella's castle for an early dinner.  Ruby and Ada are well old enough to know the characters were  just people dressed up, but it was all still incredibly magical for them both.  They loved collecting autographs and spotting different characters.  Earlier in the day Ada told me she thought the princesses were probably getting ready for our dinner in the castle!  We were first greeted by Cinderella and invited upstairs to the beautiful dining room.  Once seated the girls (and mom) were given magic wands and wishing stars and dad even got a sword!  The meal was wonderful again, including appetizers, drinks, and dessert.  While we ate there would be a royal announcement introducing each of the princesses as they entered the room.  Aurora, Snow White, Jasmine, and Ariel all interacted with us, took pics and signed autographs.  What a special treat to have dinner in the castle!
We get to have dinner in the castle!!!

I didn't know you could actually go inside

After dinner Steve and Ruby decided to get in line for Space Mountain.  We didn't have a Fast Pass for this one because I didn't think they would be brave enough to ride, but Ru was all in.  Ada decided she and I should ride the People Mover instead as she wasn't a fan of the dark and we also snuck into Monster's Inc Laugh In while they rode Space mountain.  We had a Fast Pass reserved for Big Thunder Mountain on our second day in Magic Kingdom, but we noticed the line wasn't too long and since we were having a blast on the rollercoasters, we decided to give it a whirl.  They loved it!  We planned to stay for fireworks this night so we had time for another ride and decide to get in line for Pirates of the Caribbean.  I remembered liking this ride the first time I went to Disney as a third-grader and had seen it on the list of "all ages/family" rides.  As soon as we boarded the boat, Steve and I realized we had made a big mistake.  This was by far the most terrifying ride for the girls throughout our entire trip.  For those that don't know, it is a SLOW boat ride, but it's dark and depicts several pirate scenes.  As you can see, they couldn't even look!

I had to cover Ada's eyes on Pirates of the Caribbean!

After the horrible ride, we stopped for cotton candy (that the cast member gave us for free!) and found spots for the light show.  To say it was amazing was an understatement.  It was one of Steve and I's top moments of our whole trip.  So cool in fact, that we didn't think to take any pictures.  The kids loved the end when Tinkerbell flies off of the top of the castle!  After the show we headed for our bus and back to our resort where I realized we had been at Magic Kingdom for 14 hours!  Had you told me that ahead of time, I would say you are nuts and that is completely over doing it, but we really all were having fun (save Pirates of the Caribbean) and totally worth it.  That ended up being the only night we stayed for a fireworks/light show, but I think if we were to do it again, I'd try to do a couple others because it was so great.

Another magical day!
