Happy Birthday Daddy

From Spring 2014
We celebrated the birthday of the very best Daddy last week!  We carried on our tradition of opening presents right away in the morning and then went out to dinner that evening.  I was a little worried about the girls ruining the birthday present surprises so I ordered a couple things and then took them shopping to pick out a couple gifts the day before his birthday.  Ada tried to get him to look at something hidden in the back of the fridge (so I'm sure he had no clue he was getting " barley pop") but other than that they did a pretty good job keeping the secrets.

(On a related  note I have to share a story about Mother's Day that I forgot.  Steve took the girls to his work the Saturday before Mother's Day to help him wrap some presents and when they got back they were just dying to tell me what they'd been up to.  Ruby kept saying things like, "We left... something in the car but we can't tell you what it is" and "We got you a drink, but I can't tell you what kind"!!  Then Ada starts yelling, "Pepper!  Pepper!  It's pepper drink!"  I was in tears from laughing so hard, but that throw-back Dr. Pepper with real cane sugar was so yummy even if it wasn't a surprise!)

We took Daddy to Crown Candy Kitchen for dinner.

It's the oldest soda shop in St. Louis and always on the list of places to visit in STL.  We'd never been there and figured a Thursday evening was probably a good time to avoid the typical line down the block.  The girls saw the candy when we walked in the door and insisted on lollipops for dessert.

They missed out on some yummy ice cream!  Mommy and Daddy did NOT miss out on some yummy ice cream!

This skyline is always impressive no matter how often you see it.  And just look at those matching smiles!

  2. What a great birthday. I love how they just can't contain themselves with the excitement of a surprise.
