Happy 4th of July from the Nelson family!
I know she doesn't look excited in that picture, but for days Ruby's been talking about going to the "July parade"and the festivities today didn't disappoint. Friends of ours have a big 4th of July brunch/picnic at their beautiful house which is right along the parade route in Webster Groves. We told Ruby about the parade and she was beyond excited. Once again the forecast was for 105, so we packed the ice water, donned our red, white, and blue,
lathered on the sunscreen, and tried to stay in the shade!
It was a great way to celebrate! Thank you to our wonderful hosts, the Bronners! (No fireworks this year. Most were cancelled in STL because of the dry conditions anyway. We didn't mind, the girls were in bed before 8 as usual!)
Earlier in the week we did some "Mommy School" to learn about the 4th of July and why we celebrate. Not sure how much Ruby really got, but she had fun doing some of the activity pages I printed from
Over the Big Moon.
I'm not big on "paper-and-pencil prescribed activities" for toddlers, but Ruby likes doing some of the writing, cutting, and glueing. I think it's probably the novelty of it. Cutting is still a "pretty tricky" skill. Using scissors and a glue stick is pretty cool though! I picked a few of the activities and we talked about the pictures and symbols that related to our country. Ruby definitely knows what the US flag looks like and the colors on our flag.
She really liked the pre-writing pages and had me make dotted lines so she could trace her name and the alphabet over and over!
Ada's usually taking her morning snooze while Ruby and I do "Mommy School".
Don't you just love how she's all snuggled up with her lovey? She's not a great sleeper, but she sure is cute as a bug when she does sleep!
Thanks for sharing - just adorable!
