The very last week of February 2020 Ada got sick. She came home from school on a Thursday and I could tell right away she wasn't feeling well. She spiked a fever that night and complained of a sore throat so I brought her to the pediatrician Friday assuming she had strep. Both strep tests came back negative as well as the flu test so the doctor thought it was just a virus. She spiked a fever of 103 for the next 10 days straight. As soon as the meds wore off it would go right back up. Other than that she really didn't have any other symptoms. The pediatrician thought it was strange that the fever was so high and lasted so long so after about 7 days she did put her on an antibiotic. It was about then that she started coughing and coughing. She ended up missing 6 days of school (and was sick over 2 weekends). It was very strange.
Just a few weeks later it seemed pretty clear to us that Ada had Covid, although experts didn't seem to think it was in our area that early and we have no idea where she would have picked it up. It's so interesting to think that Covid wasn't really on anyone's radar at that time and then within 2-3 weeks everything was completely shut down. Ada's doctor did ask if we had been around anyone who had been in China, but just as kind of an aside. Ruby and I had a very mild 1-2 day "cold" and Steve ended up with a low-grade fever and cough for a few days as well. We asked about getting antibody tests but they weren't available and apparently aren't very accurate. So we will never know for certain, but Ada's symptoms seem like a pretty classic case.
