Garden Time

I've been wanting to have a garden for several years and now we do!  We did some container gardening when we lived in STL, and that was about all I could handle with two littles.  We decided it was time to take the plunge and make a raised bed garden.  We have plenty of room in our backyard so hopefully we can grow lots of our own veggies!

I convinced Steve that it would be simple enough for us to build and it really was.  Steve did most of the work and I love it!  I took a little beginner gardening class a few weeks ago and figured out what to plant when.  It's sort of strange thinking that we'll be able to plant and garden all year round!

I've read about square foot gardening in the past and thought that would be an easy place for me to start.  We put in some tomato, strawberry, broccoli and cauliflower plants.  We also planted carrots, beans, lettuce, kale, and cilantro seeds.  I left a few spots that I plan to use for pepper plants this spring.  We got a lot of rain the week after we planted so everything is coming up nicely and we even have a little red strawberry that's probably ready to be picked.  Not sure how we're going to decide who gets to eat it!

We have another project ready for my dad to help with when my parents (and grandparents!) visit next weekend for Easter.  He's going to help us put in a rain barrel.  Then we'll just have to cross our fingers it rains again before October!

I'm accepting all prayers for green thumbs and any gardening advice!!!
