Thanksgiving Week

From Fall 2015
We ended up staying home and having a quiet Thanksgivng just the four of us, per usual.  It turned out to the best thing for our (SICKO) family this time, but we may have to rethink things in years to come.  Ruby asked everyone she talked to on the phone the week leading up to Thanksgiving if they could come to our house.  "Gaga can you come to our house for Thanksgiving?"  "No, not this year sweetie."  "But no one is going to be here!"  She was a bit bummed that we would be celebrating without extended family.  The girls are much easier to travel with now, so it feels more feasible to do a trip for Thanksgiving and Christmas- maybe next year!

Like I said, though, it was for the best that we were home.  My interns finish up their semester before Thanksgiving so I was crazy busy that week on top of being sick.  I finally decided to go to urgent care one night and got an antibiotic for a sinus infection and then ended up back there over the weekend for a second antibiotic.  The girls and I had the whole week of Thanksgiving off so I was looking forward to resting and recuperating.  We ended up at the clinic for Ada...ear infection, surprise, surprise and Ruby had the sniffles too.  So the week was filled with pjs and cartoons on the couch!  Not to be left out, Ruby stayed home from school one day after Thanksgiving and found out at the pediatrician's office that she also has an ear infection.  If you've lost count that's 4 antibiotics for the Nelson girls within 2 weeks.

Ada and I did get to go to Ruby's school before break for a sweet Thanksgiving feast (aka: school lunch!).

You know how everything is bigger in Texas?  Well that seems especially true for holidays.  We don't just trick-or-treat on Halloween, we go to a fall carnival, halloween event at your church, trunk-or-treat, etc leading up the big day.  Same thing for Thanksgiving- every church has a Thanksgiving feast and every school too!

We kept up with tradition and got our (live) tree thanksgiving week too!  The forecast called for rain ALL weekend so we snuck out to the tree farm Wednesday afternoon.  Sadly the cute place we went last year wasn't open so we tried a different one and it was a bit of a disappointment.  The trees that you could cut yourself were all spray painted.  Turquoise.  And it was very obvious.  So, we ended up getting one of the pre-cut, trucked-in trees.

In spite of the germies, we have so much to be thankful for again this year, least of all is YOU!
