I was planning to write a quick post with a bunch a pictures of a little house tour, but got quite distracted last week with the events back in STL. We have seen images of our old home everywhere and have friends quite literally in the midst of it all. I'm sure it has hit hard because it is so close to "home" but I believe this is an important moment in our country's history so I feel obligated to mention it here. Obviously there have been numerous stories, blogs, tweets, and FB statues written about the situation and I don't pretend to be as informed or as eloquent as (some) of the writers. However, as followers of Christ, we first and foremost believe in love. Love for ALL. I don't think anyone can deny there is a whole lot of pain and fear being displayed and, I believe, Jesus calls us to love those who are hurt and care for those who are afraid. If you feel sad or angry about what has happened in Ferguson this past week I'd recommend reading this written by our paster in STL http://darrinpatrick.org/blog/ferguson-response/ If the recent events haven't affected you one way or another, I'd ask you to please become informed. Okay, getting down off of my soapbox.
As difficult as it is to see turmoil during the holiday season, Thanksgiving gave us a great opportunity to reflect on our blessings and see the good in our lives and the good in our world. So grateful for the hope of a better place. As I previously posted, we had fun writing down everything we were grateful for. Our turkey got pretty wild!
We spent another quite holiday at home but filled up on good food, lots of relaxation, and enjoyed a warm, sunny day! (The leaves finally started changing colors here!)
We made all the traditional fare including pumpkin pie, but we did collect lots more pecans for the freezer!
Our turkeys watched the parade, skyped with family, and played all day.
We did have one little visitor over the holiday, our friend's dog, Luna. They were going to Dallas for a couple days so we agreed to pet sit. Ruby loved taking care of her, letting her in and out, playing with her, and taking her for a walk.
Ada liked Luna from afar! She gets nervous when dogs get to close- she takes after her Mom!
The girls had the whole week off of school, but did lots of sweet Thanksgiving projects the week before and Ruby's class even had a little program and feast for the families.
Ruby was a pilgrim in the program, and although she was nervous the night before, she did great. She was just perfect standing in her bonnet and apron holding the babydoll while her teacher read the Thanksgiving story!!!
Pray for peace in Ferguson. It must be especially hard to see all the unrest going on in the St. Louis area.
