I'm still trying to get caught up on our blog and realized I never posted our trip(s) to the Arch or our explorations around U City. We had been telling the girls that we'd go up in the Arch before we moved so we took one Sunday afternoon while our realtor was having an open house to head down there.
We should have planned better because by the time we found a place to park and walked through the park, there was a 2+ hour wait for the next tram. :( We made the best of it by walking to one of our other favorite places in downtown STL- the City Garden!
On our second attempt I bought tickets online ahead of time and it was smooth sailing to the top.
I don't think Ada really got that we were in the Arch because as we walked back to our car she kept saying she wanted to go on the top!
In addition to visiting all of the touristy St. Louis sites, one of the things on my bucket list before we left for Waco was to take lots of pictures around University City of all of the UCity lions. University City was established over 100 years ago and the Lions Gates were built as an entrance to the city.
They are at the end of a popular street called "The Loop" which was actually named one of the top ten streets in America a couple years ago and we lived within walking distance (how spoiled were we!).
Lions became the city mascot and there are statues of them all around the city and at the entrance of many of the historic homes. I think it might be fun to get two stone lions to guard our house someday!
A few years back the city commissioned artists to paint several lions that were placed around the city (sort of like the Chicago cows on a much smaller scale). The lions were eventually auctioned off, so we were only able to take pics with a few that are in neighborhood parks and public places around the city.
I'm hoping to make a little photo book for the girls with these pictures and others to help them remember all of our favorite places in St. Louis! I need to get on that!
Lots of wonderful memories of St. Louis! Thanks for sharing.
