Even with all the craziness, we were really looking forward to our mini-vacation to Madison. Ruby marked "Baby Charley Day" on her calendar and counted the days.
The girls were so excited to see Daddy when they woke up on Father's Day. After some snuggles, a few gifts and cards, and a yummy breakfast we packed up the car and started driving. The girls did pretty well in the car, we brought several activities and lots of snacks for the trip.
Ada even napped on the way.
Where do you stop for lunch when you're headed to Wisconsin? Custard and cheese curds makes it an easy decision!
That might be ice cream in her hair. It is.
We checked into the hotel and headed over to Jen and Drew's for a Father's Day barbeque with the whole Nelson family. It worked out perfectly that Bill and Nancy could come down and stay at the hotel with us.
The girls loved their new cousin Charlotte.
Uncle Steve was pretty enamored too!
She's adorable and perfect, you can't help but fall in love.
Ruby even held Charley, for about 3 seconds.
We did lots of swimming at the hotel. There was a perfect little splash pool for the girls to play in. Only about a foot or so deep all the way around and we usually had it all to ourselves.
Baby Charley even went for a dip!
I wish I would have taken a picture when all of the fountains were on!
We did little sleeping at the hotel! (Notice who is napping here.)
Actually, with the exception of one night, the girls did pretty well. The room we had was the perfect set up; a big room with a little kitchen area and full table, a large bed in the main room and a separate room with two twin beds. We brought the PNP for Ada to sleep in. After putting them to bed one of the nights Ruby cracks the door open and says, "Mom and Dad, Ada climbed
all the way out of her crib!" She then proceeds to open the door wider and says, "And here she is!" as Ada runs out. Steve and I burst out laughing which just made the girls think it was all the more funny and had to do it a couple more times. They think they're a little comedy act sometimes!
We got to spend one morning at the Madison Children's Museum.
Lots of fun stuff to do and see.
I think Ruby and Ada both liked the water area best.
We had to drag Ada out of there!
I think Charley liked snoozing best! So sweet!
There is also a cool rooftop garden,
with a beautiful view.
(Madison is such a pretty city. We could definitely see ourselves living there. If only the Neuroscience department at UW-Madison would be hiring!)
We got to visit their zoo too.
Charley really enjoyed the animals!
Gaga and Grandpa took Ruby and Ada on the carousal a few times. You'll never guess which animal Ruby rode first!
It was lots of fun sight-seeing in Madison, but I think Ruby and Ada's favorite part was just spending time with Auntie Jen, Uncle Drew, Baby Charley, Gaga, and Grandpa, of course. Thanks for spending a fun weekend with us in Madison! Hope we get to do it again.
Oh, and there
may have been more ice cream on the way home.
What?! It was vacation! And a perfect one too!
OMG - just loved this!

ok, so those ice cream shots at the end are the best ever! It was so fun having you all here. We will have to find more ways to meet and have hotel vacations with the kiddos.
