Big Girls

I marvel pretty much daily at how big my girls are getting.  Whether it's hearing Ada spit out a new word (like "buckle" or "mailman") or a new skill Ruby develops (like writing her name on everything and have we mentioned that she's been 100% diaper free-including overnight- for several months now?!), I'm always shocked by how fast they've grown.  We celebrate the excitement of seeing each new development, but with that comes a small twinge of sadness at how quickly they're changing.  Ruby still counts ...13, 14, 16, eleventeen, 18, 19... and I'm pretty sure if we explained it to her once she'd correct it immediately.  We don't say a word (and silently pray that she counts that way at least until she's eleventeen).  Ada still loves her "bubby", milk before bedtime, and snuggles with Mommy, none of which I have any plans of changing anytime soon.

There are some things that do need to change though.  We no longer have any babies in our house, so we decided to do a small update in the girls' room.  We finally took down the quilt that hung over Ruby's crib and made some tissue paper pom-poms to replace it.  The small change has helped it feel a bit more like a "big girl room".

I love how neat and clean the room and bed look in this picture.  Not reality!  It's likely piled high with stuffed animals, blankies, and books right now.  I'm pretty sure we counted 20-some animals in there the other day.  Ada takes after her sissy.  She has so many things in her crib I'm sure she's laying on toys and bubbies at night.

And, in staying honest, we made the pom-poms several months ago.  I had to dig waaaaay back to find the photos.  Which might say more about the number of pictures we take than how long ago it occurred...
