First Day of School 2019

New year, new door!

We moved into our house six days before school started so things were a bit hectic, but we didn't have to change schools or anything so I was hopeful that the girls would feel at least somewhat settled by the time they went back to school.  I have always made setting up the kids' bedrooms first priority whenever we have moved into a new house.  I try to get the big things set up in a similar way from their old rooms the very first day so going to bed in a strange place feels a little less strange.  All in all, our particular and structured little sweet peas did really, really well adjusting and slept great in their new bedrooms.  They were well rested and comfortable in our new house by the first day of school.

We got the phone calls informing us of who our teachers would be the afternoon we were moving in so it was a bit of a blur.  All we really knew was that both of them had new (to our school) teachers.

4th grader- how did that happen?!

The fourth grade is currently the oldest grade at our elementary school which means this is Ruby's last year there!  They departmentalize with the intention of getting them ready to move to the intermediate school next year, meaning Ruby has one teacher for reading, writing, and social studies, and another teacher for math and science.  Basically they flip-flop classes after lunch.  I'm not wild about this idea, but so far it has gone well for Ruby and she hit the jackpot with teachers again this year.  Her homeroom teacher is phenomenal and her other teacher is amazing too!  Ruby is still going to GT one day a week and they are bused to another school for that this year.  She doesn't like feeling like she "missed" class but the GT program has been really wonderful for her and the GT teachers are the best.

Seriously the cutest 2nd grader ever, right?!

The 2nd graders move from the primary wing of Woodway Elementary to the "big kid hallway".  It's hard to believe that our baby is a 2nd grader.  Ada's teacher is incredibly sweet and caring and Ada loves her.  She has not once worried about school this year which is pretty big for her.  Ada had a few friends in her class from last year and made several more in no time.  She never has trouble finding a girl gang!  Being with her friends is her favorite thing about school, but Ada's also a hard worker and a people pleaser.  She keeps telling me that school is so easy, so so far so good in second grade!

Nelson girls ready to rock another year at Woodway
