Choose Joy Dance Recital

The first week in June was dance recital weekend.  Both girls took tap and ballet starting in December this year which meant two hours of dance on Thursday afternoons!  It's been fun watching them learn and improve.  Ruby especially has made a lot of progress which probably comes with her age and level.  In my (biased) opinion, I think they are really good at dance and never once complained about going so I know they enjoy it.  I am not a dance mom in the least but I really love watching them dance and perform.

I was able to take videos of their dances during dress rehearsal again.  Ada was in the 5&6 year old class which performed during the Saturday morning show, so she did her ballet dance and then her tap dance just once.  I wasn't crazy about the puppy costumes when we first got them (none of the moms really were), but the girls LOVED them.  She was in a big class of almost 20 girls, so they really did look like 101 dalmatians so it turned out pretty cute.

Just part of her huge class.  Too hard to get them all together for a class picture.

Ada's tap costume was fun and she did great again with her dance.  You'll notice when you hear the song that the dance studio is a "christian" one.  Kinda strange, but I guess we are in Texas!  At least I know that they won't ever dance to any questionable music and will have age appropriate costumes.  The recital theme this year was "Choose Joy" and they really do do an excellent job of putting it all together and making it an uplifting, positive experience for the dancers.

Flowers for the great performance!

Ruby was in level 1A this year (whatever that means) so she performed in the Saturday and Sunday afternoon shows.  Which means we had three different shows we had to attend!  It actually worked out fine because Ruby was able to watch Ada's whole show and they Ada got to watch Ruby's whole show.  Otherwise they have to wait backstage in between their dances.

Backstage with our favorite (and only) teacher! We love Ms Genna!

Ruby's first dance was tap.  They had cute costumes and it was a really fun dance (a Dave Matthews song!).  She love that she was "silhouetted" at the beginning.  One of the girls was sick and missed dress rehearsal and one performance but you can't tell too much in the tap dance.

They loved their fun poses for tap!

Such a sweet little class!

Ruby got to do an extra dance because she attended a dance clinic one weekend put on by the graduating senior girls.  They choreographed and taught the mixed group a fun dance.  Everyone got to wear their favorite costume for the show.  I thought they did pretty well considering they had only practiced it 3 times!

Ruby's last dance was ballet and we both loved her costume.  It was beautiful and our favorite of all the costumes over the years we've done recitals.  I was worried that when she put it on she was going to hate it because of the lace sleeves, but luckily it was really soft and not at all itchy!  Their ballet dance was a hard one with lots of different parts all happening at once.  Unfortunately with that one girl out sick they looked a bit off, but you can tell Ruby definitely knew her part and they sure looked cute anyway!

Beautiful ballerina!

Love those pretty costumes and fancy buns!

Sweet friends and we are already signed up to dance together again in the fall!

It really is fun watching your own kids having fun and being successful at whatever it is they are doing.  Ruby and Ada constantly have music playing at home and are always dancing.  In fact, just the other day Ruby spent half the day in her bedroom choreographing a dance.  She wrote out all of the steps and then proceeded to memorize it and perform it for us that afternoon.  It amazed us that she could do that!  Not to be outdone Ada performed the entire Trolls soundtrack for us.  I kept asking her if she was getting tired to which she replied "yes!" but she continued to dance every song incorporating all of the moves and steps she has learned.

Three pages of dance steps!

Love them!
