The Gaga and Grandpa With the Kitties

That's how Ruby distinguishes her grandparents.  With the kitties or with the puppies.

We are so incredibly blessed to be able to visit family and friends up north multiple times a year and even a couple times each summer!  We had such a fun vacation with the Nelson family in Madison a couple months ago and got to go back to Wisconsin to visit the Licht family last week!  It was really nice for the girls to be able to stay in one place for each trip (they do not sleep well in strange places) and still have lots of good time with both sets of grandparents this summer.  I'm always a bit disappointed we never get to see everyone we'd like to when we're up there but we did have a great visit.

I can't say it was smooth sailing but that was mostly my fault.  I realized half-way to the airport that I forgot Ada's birth certificate which meant Steve dropped us off and turned around to go home and get it.  Luckily I convinced them to let her on so he was able to come back and say goodbye to all of us before he parked the car and took a shuttle to the other terminal to board his plane to D.C.  Meanwhile, our suitcase was 51 pounds which meant I had to open it up and stuff some of it's contents into my already-overflowing carry-on.  After fixing that problem and attaining Ada's boarding pass I headed to security only to realize they did not print Ruby's boarding pass.  I figured the drama was over when I finally reached the gate and had the girls entertained by watching the airplanes and luggage cars.

But no such luck.  It was then that I realized in the "no-birth-certificate" panic we had also forgot to unload a car seat and check it on the plane.  Gaga and Grandpa saved the day by running to Target on their way to pick us up to buy a new car seat.  Am I the only one who does these things???

Funny: Our flight happened to be right over dinner time so I planned on packing some food for the girls to eat on the plane.  When Steve told Ruby we would eat dinner on the plane her response was typical Ru.  (Remember that her favorite part of flying is the juice and pretzels she gets on the plane.)  "Dad, juice is sugar and we don't eat sugar for dinner.  Second of all, pretzels are snacks, not dinner.  So that's just silly."

Ruby and Ada were great on the plane.  They enjoyed their juice and pretzels, as well as, the PB&J I brought along.

Once there we spent lots of time outside.  That's what summer in Wisconsin is all about, right?!

Who is that big girl with pigtails?!

How's this for idyllic?  Sunshine, white puffy clouds, calm, clear lake, and a picnic supper.

Every night at dinner we discuss our favorite part of the day.  I'm pretty sure Steve and I would agree that our favorite part of the trip was the  three days Gaga and Grandpa took care of Ruby and Ada so we could have a little anniversary get-away!!!  But I'll save the details for another post.

Steve flew up mid-week after his D.C. trip which meant I didn't have to fly solo with the girls on the way home.  Much. less. stressful.  Ruby even took care of one of the suitcases.

Just wait until Ada can pull the other one!

  1. A true adventure! The park with teddy bears looked pretty cool! Blankies and water don't mix Ada. Your daddy used to take his in the tub! Picnics and watermelon and lots of fun. Love the Ru quote about dinner on the plane and the pic of her pulling luggage. The girls are getting so big! Love you all!
