Happy Halloween!

Just finished trick-or-treating and got the girls in bed.  Who decided stuffing small children into costumes and running around the neighborhood while they collect candy right before bed was a good idea?!!  Oh, we had tons of fun, but next year I think we will try to do some sort of Halloween party the weekend before the actual holiday.  For a little girl, it is a lot of hype for only an hour or two of dressing up.

I really wanted to do coordinating costumes this year.  When Ruby stated she was going to be a panda the only thing I could think to go with it was bamboo.  I was told it wouldn't be nice to dress Ada up as bamboo.  I'm still not sure.  Picture her in all green, some leaves on top.  It could have been cute!  And I might have heard, "I can't believe you dressed me as bamboo!" when she's older.  But this way I'll likely hear, "I had to wear Ruby's hand-me-down costume."

I took the easy route again this year and ordered Ruby's panda costume (instead of trying to make it).  Although she told me she changed her mind, I convinced her to be a panda this year and could be something else next year.  She agreed saying, "Yeah, first I'll be a panda.  Then I'll be a kitty.  Then a hippo.  Then a rhino."  So now we've got her costumes figured out until she's 7!

We decided to put the girls' costumes on and attempt some pictures last weekend because we didn't want to be rushed on Wednesday.  Ruby was excited and cooperative during our photo shoot again!  Ha!

We may or may not have taken advantage of the fact that Ruby was torturing her little sister by holding her tail and following her around in order to get a picture of them together in costume!

Don't worry, Ada was thrilled with the attention!

When Ruby got up this morning she went to the window, lifted the shade and asked, "Where's the treats?"  She was excited about trick-or-treating and seemed to remember doing it last year.  Luckily, she doesn't really have a very good grasp on the concept of time so she wasn't too jazzed up today.  After a special halloween dinner (black bean soup with cheese jack-o-lanterns and candy corn fruit salad), we donned our costumes and headed out.

Ruby dug in right away!

We just went up and down our little block, probably 12 houses total which seemed like just the right amount.  Our sweet little kitty hasn't been feeling very good, but give that girl a glowstick and a ton of people to say "hi" to and she's happy to go along for the ride!

Ruby immediately dumped out her stash when we got home, but was pretty cooperative about picking one piece to eat.

The girls liked seeing the trick-or-treaters at our door too.  Ada wanted to keep the candy though!

Look what we found next to our pumpkins when I blew out the candles.

Aw, yeah!  I have no clue what the prize is, but I'm sure it must be BIG!!!

Ruby was very concerned about what was going to happen to the candy still in our bowl when she went to bed!  I'm betting the first words out of her mouth in the morning will be, "I want a treat!"

So much fun with our pumpkins!  Happy Halloween!

  1. Great Pictures. Looks like a fun Halloween. Was the prize for the best carved pumpkins or cutest kids?

  2. What a nice Halloween. The kids looked wonderful. So cute in their little costumes. You did a nice job on those pumpkins too. Very creative! Save some candy for Grampa Bill. I love dots too Roo 'specially the green ones.
