Little Free Library

Steve got me a Little Free Library for my birthday last year.  Yep, last August.

We live on a corner lot at a 4-way stop.  It's not a busy road, but we do have quite a bit of traffic go past each day so it's a perfect spot for a LFL.  I didn't get around to painting it (I couldn't decide what to do) and, the next thing we knew, we were a (crazy) family of 5.  Life was nutty so it wasn't until this spring that I had it ready to put up.  We asked my dad to help Steve put it up when he were here for Easter.  Steve had all of the parts for what seemed like a fairly straightforward job.

This is where we learned why no one has a basement in Waco.

They were able to get the post in about 6 inches and then it would just stop.  After another trip to Lowes for different tools/supplies, several attempts, and several different spots in the yard we came to the conclusion that was all the deeper we were going to get. We learned something new.  We live on bedrock.  I'm still not at all sure how people put up mailboxes.  We were told they use dynamite to put in pools.  As you can see, the post hole piece is not in the ground as deep as it should be, but so far it seems very secure.  We did a little landscaping around it to hide the metal post and I think it ties in well with our house.  I love it!  Thank you Dad and Steve!

There are a few Little Free Libraries around Waco, but I wasn't sure if people would know what it was.  We have been pleasantly surprised with how many people have stopped and commented how much they like it!  I have a (small) problem with books (especially children's books) so we were able to stock it quite easily to start out.  We check often, and have noticed several books come and go over the past month or two.

We are charter number 67355- check it out.  So fun!
