Ruby's birthday fell on a Thursday and she requested sausage and eggs for breakfast before school and she opened a few presents in the morning. A classmate has the exact same birthday, so Ruby brought donuts for her birthday treat and the other boy brought cupcakes for the afternoon. I ate lunch with both girls at school that day, brining them their requested McDonald's Happy Meal. That evening we opened the rest of her presents and then went out for pizza. We had apple pie for dessert (of course my child would request the most labor intensive birthday treat!) and Skyped with the grandparents. It was a busy day, but lots of fun. She was spoiled as always with gifts; an "I'd rather be reading" t-shirt, fashion glasses, lots of books, Simon game, a mini American girl doll, cute purse, PomPom Wow, a snow cone machine, refills for her sewing machine, and money and gift cards to name a few!
Ruby decided she wanted to have a Teddy Bear Picnic birthday party again this year. (Remember their joint teddy bear party back in STL when they were 2 and 4?!) We had lots of fun celebrating Ruby and the party turned out super cute!
The guests arrived at our house to some big bear footprints! The girls decorated party hats for themselves and a tiny one for a teddy bear. Once everyone arrived, each girl got to choose a bear to stuff (DIY Build-a-Bear) and then decorated a t-shirt for their furry friend. They turned out so cute and we thought it was more fun than actually having a party at BaB, because they got to play and do a lot more than they would have at the store. Ruby planned the menu for the picnic and it was a fairly nice day for a picnic in the backyard. After lunch, we played Pin-the-Bowtie-on-the-Bear, which Ruby also made herself! Lastly, we had cake and presents. Ruby wanted an ice cream cake with a teddy bear on it which turned out to be actually quite difficult to find. We ended up going with a plan white ice cream cake from Freddy's (with sprinkles and cookie dough inside) and decorated it ourselves with gummi bears- yum!

Eat: Ruby is a pretty average eater for an 8 year old; not as adventurous as some, but not super picky either. She eats a small breakfast usually bagels, cereal, or fruit. She buys the school lunch at least half of the time and likes turkey sandwiches when we pack a lunch box. She is still a snacker; chips, apples, or dried fruit.
Teeth: Ruby lost 4 more teeth since last birthday, bringing her total to 8 lost teeth. However, with all of her teeth trauma last winter and a crowded mouth, the dentist pulled 4 canines (baby teeth) this summer too. So actually, 12 of her baby teeth are already out.
Sleep: RJ goes to sleep around 8:00pm and wakes around 7am daily. She is a much happier and more agreeable little person now that she has melatonin to help her get the adequate amount of sleep she needs. She loves to read for about a half hour before she goes to sleep at night. Ruby and Ada have been having a few "sleepovers" in Ada's bed lately, and we are amazed to report that they do actually sleep!
Play: As she reported in her back to school "All About Me" packet, Ruby adores books and reading. It's her favorite thing. She's been into the My Weird School series, American Girl Doll books, Roald Dahl and anything else she can get her hands on! She still loves arts and crafts, playing pretend with Ada, and dancing. She is currently taking ballet and jazz.
School: Ruby is in 2nd grade at Woodway Elementary in Mrs Abarca's class. She goes to GT at Woodgate on Tuesdays with Mrs Stevens. Ruby likes school, does well in every subject, and has lots of friends. Some of her BFF's are Maddie, Zane, Joy, Ellie, and Eli and Kaeden from church.
Personality: Smart, sensitive, creative, fun, and introverted. She emptied her closet out this summer and made herself a reading nook where she goes and closes the door for some quiet time most days! Love her!
Ambitions: Ruby wants to be a baker when she grows up!
Happy 8th birthday Ruby Jean! Love you lots and lots!
