My mom and dad were able to spend Halloween weekend with us this year. It was fun having them and so nice of them to fly right into Waco so we had more time to spend together. It was a rainy weekend (we've had a LOT of those this fall) but it stopped just in time to trick-or-treat!
Ruby and Ada wanted to wait until Gaga and Grandpa were here to carve their pumpkins, but this little guy had to check them out first.
We were SO lame about getting pumpkins this year. We had been to several fairs, festivals, and carnivals and really didn't feel like going to another "event". The only pumpkin patches around here are in large parking lots where truck in oodles of pumpkins. Given that and not wanting to deal with hayrides! face painting! funnel cake! and petting zoos! we picked out pumpkins from our local HEB. Embarrassing. (For all you non-Texans, HEB is THE grocery store here. It's big. Texas big. And, frankly, I avoid it at all costs.)
Ada gave Grandpa
clear specific directions while Ruby sketched and planned. And planned and sketched. She'd probably still be designing pumpkin faces if we hadn't told her to just make a decision already! Grandpa did most of the work and they turned out cute!
As usual, Gaga cooked lots of yummy food for us, made caramel apples, and did some fun pumpkin projects with the girls.
Choosing costumes is always an interesting adventure. They are never quite certain what they want to be, and I've pretty much lost all influence over their choices. Ruby typically has the most random ideas and, for awhile, said she was going to be a hot dog. While in Target one day I saw a sign for BOGO Halloween custumes, and with our busy fall it was a no-brainer. We would be wearing store-bought costumes for sure. They even had a hot dog costume! Hilarious!
We ran there after school to make our choices and THREE hours later we were home with a beautiful Elsa dress (let it go already) and a very non-itchy peacock costume (it is the most important requirement).
Ada got to wear her costume to school and ballet that week.
Ruby wore her costume to gymnastics (did I mention she's doing gymnastics?!).
They donned them again for their big night and happily posed for pics!
It was a warm night as we went trick-or-treating around our neighborhood. I'd say only about a quarter of the houses had their lights on, which was actually really nice. It meant we got to go for a nice walk and stop every so often to ring a door bell. The girls think candy is the bees knees and got plenty!
Cute as can be!
