Our Home!

(**I'm super annoyed at the bad quality of some of these pictures.  Apparently I lost all of my editing changes when I uploaded them to my laptop- grrr.  But I wasn't annoyed enough to fix them again.  Sorry!)

I realized that the only pictures I've posted of our new house were the ones from the MLS with all of the previous owners furniture, etc, so here is a little update of what we've done so far.

We have been busy working around the house and I think the only boxes left are in closets or the garage.  Woot, woot!  I am very slowly organizing and getting pictures hung on the wall (they are still kinda bare).  The fireplace is painted which makes it so much brighter in here.  The shelves are full now so I guess I need an updated picture.

My kitchen chairs are painted (green!)

and I made new (bright!) covers for our couch pillows.

When picking out paint for the kitchen chairs, Ruby really wanted everyone to choose their own color   so we'd have 4 different colors.  I didn't love that idea and some of you may have seen this post on Facebook: Mad because I wouldn't let her pick the color to paint our new kitchen chairs Ruby says, "When I get big I'm going to let me kids pick the colors. But they have to have polka dots. The rule in our family will be polka dots."  Anyway, I needed something bright to hang on wall in the living room so I used Ruby's idea.  We each painted a square canvas in our favorite color and we love how great they turned out!

We recently put in a new patio door which doesn't let the bugs in (how novel) and lets lots more sun in, plus gives us more space than the french doors allowed for.  We have new gutters (how exciting!) and mulch is finished in the back yard.  We are still not sure the mulch was the right decision, but it will be the right decision for now and we'll see how it goes.  It was basically dirt out from the patio and under the swing set which quickly became a mud pit with all of the spring rain.  Our original plan was to sod it but were told they'd only guarantee the sod for a year or two because of the shady area and tree roots.  Mulch seemed safer and means less to mow and water.  Steve also borrowed a power washer for our patio and brick.  We didn't realize how bad it was until we saw this!

See that dark part on the bottom left?  That's the before- ew!  It looks so much nicer now!

The girls bedrooms are the first rooms I tried to get together again so it feels like home to them.  No major changes to what they had in their rooms before except new curtains.  I'd like to add some finishing touches like more artwork/wall decorations and maybe some fun paint embellishments but they are done for the time being.

Ruby painted some wooden letters that we need to hang in her room too!

We are feeling much more settled, but there is still work to be done.  We need to work on some light fixtures, get a (big, comfy) chair for the office, and finish furnishing/decorating our master bedroom.  I have some ideas for the playroom/guest room too but I have a feeling it will be a long time before I get anything accomplished in there.  We did find a couple cool pieces for the office and bedroom at a fun store here in Waco.  We got this metal cabinet for the office

and a set of 4 of these stadium chairs for our bedroom.

We need some serious help in our master bedroom; we don't have curtains or nightstands and it's starting to drive Steve crazy!  I am having such a difficult time picking those out for some reason.  Help!!  (Seriously, if you are good at decorating... I. need. help.)

After talking to some neighbors one evening, we found out that we have a peach tree, a big fig tree, a pecan tree, and a crabapple (I think) tree in our backyard.  I told Ruby and Ada when they asked for a snack we could just send them out back to pick something.  Hopefully someday we will have some sort of vegetable garden too.  We saw lots of leaf lettuce, onions, peas, and herbs growing in the elementary school garden down the street the other night, so I think we are a bit late for the growing season this year.  We currently have baby apples and baby peaches though!  What can we do with the crabapples?  Are they edible?

I also discovered we have fire ants- ouch!  Don't think Steve took me serious until he got bitten himself.  There are definitely a lot of new bugs and critters in Texas.  That is one thing I don't like about our new home- ew!
