Now that we're "unpacked"
(thanks for the help girls), life is certainly different, but we are all doing well here in Waco and having fun exploring our new home.
The girls seem to have adjusted smoothly and quickly, although they do talk and ask about friends back in St. Louis. At bedtime the other night Ada asked me, "Do Kyle and Abi live in Texas?" Every time we run errands Ada wants to go to Trader Joes and can't quite figure out why we can't just drive there. As we've been praying for our house to sell, Ruby asked, "Why don't we just go live in it?"
We all get pretty intrigued when we spot a lizard or gecko outside and we were surprised at all of the snails around. The Texas wildlife is already incorporated into Ruby's artwork; "It's a lizard!"
We have checked out a few parks around the neighborhood and city. I think the girls are pretty starved for peer interactions because their shyness goes right out the window when they see other kids (or adults!) and will go right up and start playing! They are in love with the fact that there are two kids right next door to play with. Molly and Wes are 8 and 7, and they are so good to play with our girls! The whole family is sweet as can be and we've met a couple other friendly neighbors too.
The McKeevers, who we are renting from, told us about the Waco Cultural Arts Fair the weekend after we moved in so we went to check that out. It was great. There were a ton of amazing hands on art activities for the whole family, music, demonstrations- and all free! Ruby and Ada painted, made clay sculptures, and masks. There was a ton going on and we only spent a short time there, next year we will definitely plan to have more time to take it all in.
We also spent a gorgeous Saturday morning at the Waco Farmer's Market where we bought fresh dates to munch on. Yum! The Farmer's Market is downtown along the Brazos River. Good food, fun music, and a neat place to walk around. There are several bridges that cross the river and a good view of Baylor and the new football stadium- the pride and joy of Waco. And I am soooo not exaggerating!
Steve's new job is going well and he's super busy and tired by the end of the week! We are a bit overwhelmed by the number of churches here, but have checked out a couple that we like. My personality is one that likes to be settled, have things figured out, in a routine, and comfortable immediately, but I know that takes time and we are on our way.
Wow - you guys are very brave with your move and just remember - it takes time to adjust and appreciate. Love your posts!
