Mine No Longer

Ruby is officially pacifier-free before her 3rd birthday!  Unknown to her, we made a small cut in the two "mines" she had left about a week ago.  After trying each one, she told us they didn't work anymore.  She then put them at the end of her bed and said she didn't need them anymore because she was a big girl!  She was about to throw them in the trash can the other day, but just couldn't bring herself to do it.  We told her it's hard to give up something you really like, so she keeps them at the end of her bed but they haven't been in her mouth at all.  Not once did she ask for one or cry about it.  I'll be honest, naptime has been r.o.u.g.h.  She's only napped once all week, but she doesn't cry for the "mine".  There really haven't been any pacifier issues at bedtime, let's face it she's so exhausted from skipping her nap that she crashes at night!  The no-nap thing is wearing Momma down, but we really expected a lot more whining and crying about the "mine".   Giving up the pacifier turned out to be the easy part, trying to figure out an alternative to soothe herself to sleep has been difficult.  (I'm still crossing my fingers she'll get back to her naptime routine).  We are so proud of her for making the decision that she was done with it!

I took her to Build-A-Bear the next day to make a special big girl toy to sleep with.  Ruby picked a bunny, pink outfit, sparkly shoes, and pj's!
