Spooky

Ruby and Ada went with classics this year for Halloween; a witch and a black cat.  Mom went with Amazon for the costumes.  (Side note: Can we talk about Amazon for a minute?  I'm definitely an Amazon Prime mom and have been for awhile.  Yet, still I am amazed every time that I can click a few buttons and, like magic, a box is at my front door two days later.  Living in a smaller city, Amazon is my BFF.)

So anyway...

We had our school's Fall Fest the Friday night before Halloween.  This is not a costume event, but lots of fun and a big fundraiser so we planned to be there/work at it all night.  Ada was a disaster the whole time, whining and easily upset about ev.ry.thing.  Steve ended up taking Ruby and Ada home and putting them to bed while I stayed and finished helping with the silent auction.  When I got home I told Steve something had to be wrong with Ada because she is usually a pretty easy going kiddo.  Sure enough she woke up the next morning with a fever and saying her tummy hurt.

The fever spiked back up as soon as the meds wore off all weekend long.  Steve and I tagged-teamed Monday so he could work in the morning and I could teach my classes in the afternoon.  That evening she said her throat hurt, wah, wah, wahhhhh.  The pediatrician confirmed Tuesday morning that she had strep.

We kept ourselves entertained with Insta filters

She thought this one was absolutely hilarious

Waiting for the doctor like...

Are you following me here?  Tuesday was Halloween.  So yeah, we took our streppy kid out trick-or-treating. Very spooky!!!  Did I also mention it was cold and rainy. #winning #worstparentsever  Ada ended up missing 3 days of school, and after having been sick the entire weekend before, it was the longest week ever!  Thankfully she's a trooper and recovered quickly with the antibiotics.

We carved pumpkins in between fever spikes

No pics of the actual pumpkin carving, but Ruby wrote a book about it!

Lots of candy at the end of that rainbow

Ready for treats

Because of the drama, we just went up one street and back down the next block by our house again this year.  Nobody complained though since their pumpkin buckets were literally filled to the top.

Let's do this

Digging in

Counting, sorting, and logging each piece

Also, I can't forget to post about the Storybook Character Pumpkin contest that the girls participated in for school.  They decided (mom talked them into) submitting an entry in the sibling category this year.  They went with Narwhal and Jelly (cute books if you haven't read them!) and we used gourds since they were just the right shape.  Note to self; don't paint your pumpkins the day before they are due...nothing sticks to wet paint.  They won 3rd place!
