The 2016 Election

I am still not ready to write anything eloquent, but feel this is an important post to be able to look back on.

This was a VERY easy election for me to decide who to vote for.  I proudly supported Hillary and there is NO WAY in the world I would ever have voted for the Republican nominee.  As a Christian, he was the antithesis of all I believe in.  While on earth Jesus' time was spent with the broken, the marginalized, the minorities. He didn't teach us to be stronger, tougher, and protect our own.  Policy should never come before humanity.  Christ tells us to love one another.  period.  full stop.

We get to vote early here in Texas.  The polls are open for a couple weeks leading up to election day.  We were proud and humbled to have the opportunity to take our girls with us as we voted for the first female (major party) presidential candidate.   (Although, I think Steve was a little nervous taking our picture next to the HRC sign on a busy street.)

Even though I had already voted, I proudly wore my "pantsuit" on election day, along with this sticker.

I so strongly believe in the importance of that statement and will continue to strive to do just that.  (I admit, living in Texas it's pretty easy for me to do!)

Like so many, one of the hardest things I've had to do as a parent was to look at my girls, whom I've told can do ANYTHING, and tell them that the the girl, the most qualified candidate in our history lost to the bully, the racist, the bigot.

As I posted on Instagram after the election, I put this on our thankful tree this year.

I am forever grateful for Hillary, for never giving up and fighting to achieve more that any woman before.  For giving us hope that when we tell our girls they can be anything they want, we are telling them the truth.  Our hearts are broken but we are committed to continue to love all and to support and fight for the broken, marginalized, and minorities.

In this advent season we pray, "Come quickly Jesus!"

  1. Very well expressed, Sheri! Couldn't agree with you more. How we proceed from here is the question. Live with grace and as much respect for one another and as our faith teaches us!
