We continue to work on our yard and it's slowly coming along, although there's always a list of projects we still want to do! We bought two trees and had them planted in the front this spring. They are growing fast and it will be so nice when they are big enough to provide a little shade.
(Not the greatest picture, but if you look close you can see a roadrunner sitting under the tree.)
We also discovered this tree hanging over our back fence.
I'm pretty sure they're loquats and quite tasty!
Since Waco thinks it's actually Seattle this spring, our little garden has come along quite nicely with very little effort. We've had so. much. rain. We really should have put in 2 rain barrels (or 12). I'm sure now that the sun has decided to reappear it won't rain again until September and our lonely barrel will be empty soon.
Remember when our garden looked like this back in March?
This is what it looked like mid-April.
Here is a picture from today!
It's a jungle. A tomato jungle. They are so thick I can't even see or reach in to pick them all. At this point I've pretty much pulled most everything out except the tomatoes, some kale and pepper plants. The tomatoes got way out of control before I was able to put cages around them and even with the cages they've basically taken over the entire 8x4 foot garden. I'm thinking we might need to build a second bed just for tomatoes. The cauliflower and cabbage got infested with bugs and had to be pulled but we did get some good broccoli, yummy green beans, and a little lettuce before the invasion of the tomatoes. The carrots didn't fair so well.
Hahaha! Bite size!
Bitty berries
We love broccoli
Fresh kale chips
Fresh green beans are the best
My little snappers
So many tomatoes!
After the tomatoes are done, I'm hoping to replant some other things. I'm pretty excited that I can plant all year round!
Sadly we had a big branch come down from our big shade tree in the back. It really wasn't that bad of a storm and I'm thankful that it (barely) missed the swing set. Steve cut it down yesterday and the girls helped haul all of the branches to the curb this afternoon.
Up next: doors and paint for our shed and a flower garden around the mailbox!
Quite the green thumb! Glad the tree branch fell when it did and where it did! Now I know how baby carrots are born!
