Our 6 Year Old Bookworm!

From Fall 2015
Our bright, beautiful, independent Ruby is 6!  She has matured so much in these past 6 weeks of Kindergarten it is incredible!

Ruby had a fun party the Sunday afternoon before her actual birthday.  I suggested the idea of a Bookworm Party since she loooooooves reading and, once she heard a few of my ideas, she thought it would be fun!  We invited a couple of girls from school, a couple from last year's preschool, and a couple friends from church.  I had fun decorating the night before as a bit of a surprise to Ruby.

Ruby had lots of ideas about what we should do at the party and led everyone from one activity to the next.

We decorated "reading glasses" with jewels, played a "book walk" game, made a couple different kinds of worm bookmarks, tried balancing books on our heads, and even had a bookworm piñata!  It was impossible to find a worm piñata, but that was one thing Ruby really wanted to have at her party, so we improvised.  We found a butterfly piñata, cut off the wings, added a pair of glasses, and filled it with gummy worms, of course!

I also found these adorable, edible cake toppers on etsy that we had to have!

After the party Ruby said, "Thanks for the party Mom.  It was full of fun!"  Love that girl!!!

Ruby's actual birthday was on Monday and she made sure to wake up early enough to open a couple presents before breakfast!  We opened the rest when Daddy got home and had ice cream sundaes instead of more cake.  She was spoiled by everyone and loved everything she got.  We got her a special reading chair for her room!

Ruby at Six!
Stats: 45 inches tall and 40 pounds- She grew 3 inches and gained 3 pounds last year!
Eat:  RJ eats a small breakfast, usually cereal or waffles, but I think she eats a good lunch at school.  She looks at the menu each week to decide when to bring or buy.  Pizza and chicken nuggets are her two favorite options so far and they are served once a week!  Ruby is a snacker, and I'm sad to say she hasn't been very good about eating vegetables lately.  However, she is pretty good about at least trying new things.
Sleep:  It has been quiet an adjustment trying to get to bed earlier for her 7am wake up call.  This summer, Ruby would typically get up in the morning between 8 and 9, but she has done a pretty good job of adjusting.  She is still slow to calm down and fall asleep at night, but the alarm clock she insisted on when school started has been helping in the mornings!
Play:  Ruby still loves reading books and doing anything artsy.  She can read most any picture book and love having someone read chapter books aloud.  (This reading specialist mother is guessing she's reading about mid-third grade level.)  Steve and I got a kick out of her telling us that she planned to saks the school librarian where they kept the Daisy Meadows books.  That is the author of these (horrible) fairy chapter books she is totally into.  Poor Steve has to read them to her before bed many nights.  I'm told it's basically the same exact sorry in all 218 books of the series!  I try to check out a few pieces of quality children's literature too!  Along with beads, bracelets, and drawing, Ruby and Ada often play "family" together or with friends after school.  She can ride a bike (no training wheels) go across the monkey bars, and just started gymnastics!
Personality:  Last year I wrote, "Ruby is sensitive, inquisitive, and PER.SIS.TENT." and I'd say those traits haven't changed a bit!  She is also incredibly smart and creative.  Yea, I know I'm the biased Mom.  Whatever, she is! ;)
