Art Party

I decided that the first couple weeks of September weren't really going to be busy enough for us so I planned a birthday party for Ruby last weekend to add to the fun!

Actually, it was pretty simple and I'm very glad we scheduled a party before we moved.  It was really fun to have one last party with Ruby's friends before the big move.  I knew I needed to keep it simple, so we had the party at Michaels. Yes, the craft store.  Ruby loves arts and crafts so it seemed pretty perfect.  They have a nice little craft room where they do classes and birthday parties.  Ruby and I met with the party lady a week before the party to choose a craft and pick out the supplies.  We showed up about a half hour before the party with the supplies and they did the rest.  It turned out great, Ruby had an absolute blast, and I'm pretty sure all of the other girls did too.  The craft Ruby picked out was a little wooden chalkboard heart, so they each painted a heart with bright colors and chalkboard paint.

Pretty happy I didn't have to clean up the mess!

While they were drying the girls got their faces painted and applied rainbow tattoos.

I'm pretty sure the highlight of the party was decorating their own cupcakes.

Each girl had a paint pallet full of sprinkles, icing and decorations to use.  Yum!

The week leading up to the party Ruby told anyone she met that it was almost her birthday.  We explained that it was her party and her real birthday would be in a couple weeks.  She completely understood this but completely disregarded it anyway, telling us she was going to be 5 when she blew out her candles!

She sang along as we sang the Happy Birthday song!

This Momma's heart was so happy to see the smiles, excitement, and happiness on her big girl's face!  She was such a mature, responsible hostess and enjoyed every second of her party!

We sent the girls home with their chalkboards and a pack of colored chalk.  Thanks for celebrating with our little art lover!  So grateful that Ruby got to celebrate the big 5 with good friends!

  1. What a great party! Looks like everyone had a wonderful time. When I see (almost 5 year old ) Ruby standing in the living room I can't help but see "little Ruby" in the same living room pulling herself up by the couch and telling us what the kitty and doggie say. Ruby, you have grown so much and are such a wonderful young lady!

  2. Miss Ruby! I'm so happy that you had such a fun Birthday party with your St Louis friends. BUT, don't be growing up too fast! You still have a few days before the real day. Love you more every day. Have a good move!
