A Run For Our Money

Ruby has been waking up at 5:45am the last week, causing Sheri and I to try and come up with a way of coaxing her back to bed or simply staying asleep until 6:30 or 7. Nothing has worked yet. Mostly Dad has just tried to go in and lay Ruby back down on her back and rub her head. This is followed promptly by a look that says "What are you doing Dad? It's time to get up. Now get me out of this sleep sack so I can go play." Before Ruby went to bed tonight, we put the blankets back up in her windows that we had put up previously to keep the sunlight out in the morning. We are hoping that will delay her waking at least a little. Keep your fingers crossed.

Last weekend, Grandpa Bill and Grandma Nancy came for a visit to St. Louis. We went to the zoo on Saturday morning before it got too hot and humid.

Ruby got to pet the goats again, though she was a little leary of them but seemed to have fun. Check out this look she is flashing Grandpa Bill. "You are silly, Grandpa."

We also went for a lot of walks to the park and Ruby rode on the swing and sat by her favorite ponds where she sometimes gets to see daddy, mama, and baby ducks. Here she is there with Grandpa.

We were sad to see Grandpa and Grandma go, and they were sad to be leaving. Ruby had a really fun time! Love you Grandma and Grandpa!

The rest of the week saw temperatures plummet into the mid to low 80's with no humidity. After a week of mid 90's where the heat index was in the mid 100's, this was quite welcome. We even ate dinner outside one night on the back patio.

Ruby got a present this week as well. One that Sheri and I think all kids dream of when they are little. A giant box of plastic balls, just like the ones we all jumped in at Chuck E. Cheese's. She wasn't too excited, though perhaps it was the box that made it seem less cool.

This weekend, Mom had a good idea to go check out the Tower Grove farmer's market. We went on Saturday morning and the weather was still very comfortable. When we arrived there, it came to our realization that we had forgotten Ruby's stroller. No worry, she is small and can be carried. Then we were walking through the market and saw some good looking food. We looked at each other and asked if the other had any cash. Cash? Who carries cash these days? Oh...right...the guys selling tomatoes and zucchini don't tend to take American Express. So, strike two against Mom and Dad. Finally, we sat down in the shade and fed Ruby some yogurt.

She went for a ride on the swing after that and then we noticed there were lots of kids wading in the little pools nearby. Ruby was without a swimsuit. Strike three Mom and Dad. Oh well, she had fun anyway dipping her little toes in.
