World Series Redux

It seems like a long time ago now, though it was only a few weeks back, that the Cardinals played in the World Series vs. the Boston Red Sox. I (Dad) was pretty excited this time around, especially since I now have two impressionable little girls. I wanted to get them interested in the Cardinals, so Ruby and I headed to the store to buy some gear (and I couldn't help but get a stuffed animal and some stickers...sorry Mom). Ruby and Ada don their Cardinals apparel pretty well,

and though Ada had no idea what was going on, because, well, she never really does as a result of her age, Ruby started to make the Cardinals a topic of discussion once in a while. I told her about Michael Wacha, the Cardinals rookie phenom pitcher, and I think she remembers his name because "Wacha" is what Ada says when she is in the rocking chair. About a week after the 'series' was over, Ruby had been coming out of her bedroom well past bedtime. She knew Sheri and I were getting upset with her, and she looked up at me and said, "Dad, is Wacha pitching tonight?" I'm pretty sure I grinned, and I'm pretty sure she saw me. She did go to bed after that and I'm sure I smiled a couple times more that night thinking about her question. The Cardinals will be good for years to come, and I'm glad we have them to watch while my (still) favorite team putters along (Go Twins!).
